Yolanda (Cianchetti) Sciucco, 88, of Plainville, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 25, 2021 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain. She was the beloved “Bella” of Sergio Sciucco, with whom she shared 72 years of love and devotion.
Born in Colli, Italy on August 5, 1932, she was one of five children to the late Giacomo and Assunta (Mastromattei) Cianchetti. Yolanda moved to the U.S. at the age of 17, full of hard work, energy and pride, embracing all of the opportunities that America presented to her. She settled in Plainville where her family was nurtured in a meticulously clean home, filled with homemade specialties served daily at 6 p.m. sharp, a flourishing vegetable garden, and lots of love. She took great pride in her Italian heritage and her hard working “farm girl” persona, working in the factory at General Electric for more than 30 years, and as a crossing guard for the next 20 years, where she became the much loved “Nonni” of all of the Linden Street School students. Missed greatly but never to be forgotten, she is now at peace and with the Lord, leaving her family with many precious memories.
In addition to her husband, Sergio, she leaves her children, Anthony Sciucco and his wife, Barbara and Diane Connelly and her husband, Patrick; her grandchildren, Shaina Fabrizio and Christina and Chelsea Connelly; her great-granddaughter, Elianna; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her brothers, Gino and Angelo Cianchetti; her extended family and many friends. She was predeceased by her brother Armando and her sister Antoinette Bianchi.
Funeral services in celebration of Yolanda’s life will be on Monday at 10 a.m. from Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St, Plainville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Committal will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery Plainville. Family and friends may gather on Sunday, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
