William F. “Bill” Doyle, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong storyteller from Plainville, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, after a brief illness. He was 88.
Born on June 16, 1936, in Hartford, CT, Bill was the eldest son of the late Cornelius J. Doyle and Madeline (Sullivan) Doyle, and a protective older brother to Dennis. A proud product of Hartford’s vibrant West End, Bill spent his early years balancing spirited childhood antics with a tireless work ethic—delivering newspapers for The Hartford Courant, setting pins at the local duckpin alley, and slinging pizzas at the iconic Sisson Tavern.
He attended Noah Webster School, Hartford Public High, and earned his degree from the University of Connecticut—a true UConn Husky at heart. After college, Bill answered the call of duty, serving two years in the U.S. Army, including time in Germany and specialized Marine infantry training at Parris Island, SC.
In 1961, Bill began what would become a distinguished 36-year career with Aetna, where he played a role in processing the very first Medicare payment in 1966. He later retired from the Medicare claims office in 1997—only to “un-retire” and spend another 14 years alongside his brother Dennis at Travelers, happily combing through archives in a Windsor warehouse.
Bill married the love of his life, Nancy (Soucy), and together they shared 64 wonderful years filled with laughter, resilience, and unwavering devotion. He is survived by Nancy and their three children—Brian (Michael), Christopher (Melissa), and Karen (Joel)—as well as four cherished grandchildren: Eileen, Ross, Collin, and Kyla.
In Plainville, Bill was a familiar and beloved face—not just for his signature birthmark and warm smile, but for his boundless kindness and Dale Carnegie charm. A tireless community volunteer, he gave over three decades to visiting homebound seniors through the Plainville Senior Center and spent 20 years serving the Plainville Food Pantry. He made everyone feel seen, heard, and remembered. A lifelong communicant of the Catholic church, Billy lived a life grounded in faith and devotion.
Bill's life was rich in love, service, and genuine connection. His legacy is one of humility, humor, and heart. He did instill the unwavering work ethic in his children, providing red Jacques Cousteau hats so they could be seen delivering the Hartford Courant during the blizzard of 1978.
Per his wishes, there will be no calling hours, and a private burial will be held. The family would also like to thank the staff of E2, N3, and the ED at The Hospital of Central Connecticut and Hartford Health Care at Home Hospice Care. Donations can be made to the Plainville Community Food Pantry, PO Box 233, Plainville, CT 06062.
