Wanda Jane (Hughes) Janowski passed away July 12, 2023 at the age of 101. Wanda was born on August 21, 1921 in Donovan, IL to the late Agnes M. and John R. Hughes. She was a resident of Plainville for many years. Wanda grew up in Indiana and graduated from West Lafayette High School and attended Purdue University. She was a Staff Sergeant in the Women Marines during World War II, a Girl Scout Leader, past President of the Plainville Woman's Club, a member of the Friends of the Plainville Library and CT Library, the AARP, New Britain Institute, Women Marines Assoc., Plainville Historical Society and member of the United Methodist Church of Plainville. Wanda retired from the New Britain Public Library where she worked for 24 years in the Children's Dept.
Wanda's survivors include two sons, Peter J. and Daniel J. Janowski of Plainville; two daughters and a son-in-law: Sandra and Frank Hook, Jr. of Maui, HI and Mary Jane Abram of Bristol, CT.; three grandsons Peter L. Janowski of Plainville, Shane Abram of Terryville, CT and Todd Abram and wife, Eva, of FL.; 4 great grandchildren: Zachary, Abby, Evan and Ethan and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Zonda Mosier and her brothers, John W., Ralph E. and Walter J. Hughes and by her former husband, Peter C. Janowski.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19 at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St, Plainville, followed by burial with military honors at West Cemetery Plainville.
