Wallace (Wally) Orion Brackett, 86, of Palm Coast, FL, formerly of Bristol, CT and Southwick, MA, widow of Betty Jane (Salley) Brackett, passed away peacefully to rejoin the love of his life on their wedding anniversary September 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Wally and Betty were happily married for 64 years before her passing on July 1, 2021.
Wally was born in Bristol, CT on April 13, 1937, son of the late George and Alice (Merrill) Brackett. Wally was the youngest of ten children and he was predeceased by all his siblings: two brothers and seven sisters.
Wally married the love of his life, Betty in 1957 and in 1961 they started their family, had three children, and raised them in Bristol, CT. In 1984, when their family was grown, Wally and Betty built their dream home on Congamond Lake in Southwick, MA, and lived there until moving back to Bristol in 1995. Together they spent the next several years back in Bristol, helping to watch their grandchildren and spending time with family. In 2014 they retired to Palm Coast, FL.
Wally was part owner of Eastern Plastics, Inc. in Plainville, CT for many years with his brother Morris (until his passing) and his nephew Ernest Brackett, until Wally’s retirement in 1987. He decided to go back to work and worked for Raym-Co, Inc. until April 2002, then he and his son Todd started TW Machine and worked there until he decided to retire for good.
Wally enjoyed watching both the men’s and women’s UCONN basketball teams, the Patriots and the Red Sox’s. He enjoyed the casino, fishing, camping, traveling with his wife and family, and with friends; whether it be cruising, flying somewhere, or camping. He always enjoyed spending time with his family and with his dogs and cats throughout the years.
Wally is survived by his children, Karen Brackett Motta (Sam Jr.), Penny Brackett Ives (Gary), Todd Brackett (Tammie); his grandchildren, Samantha Motta Angelillo (David), Nicholas Motta (Ashley), Rachel Motta (Gary), Kyle Raymond (Brandi), Jamie Raymond (Kate), Amber Raymond (Rob), Katherine Ives (Jordon), Jeff Hinds-Brackett, and Margaret Stacey. He also leaves behind 17 great-grandchildren (1 predeceased), with the 18th great-grandchild due in January, his very special niece, which was like a daughter to him, Jennifer Sloan (Rob) and their children Collin and Kiersten and many other nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Thursday, October 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St., Plainville, CT 06062. Funeral services in celebration of Wally's life will be held on Friday, October 6 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forestville Cemetery, Circle Street, Forestville, CT 06010.
