Verna (Beaulieu) Boucher, 91 of Plainville, beloved mother, Memere, and spiritual powerhouse, peacefully returned home surrounded by her family, after a beautiful, purpose-filled life. She is now reunited with her beloved husband of 68 years, Lewellyn.
Born on July 20, 1933 in the village of Saint David, Maine, she was a daughter of the late Jeannette (Hebert) and Vincent Beaulieu, and raised alongside her extended family by Eva (Chasse) and Fred Derosier, learning hard work ethics from a young age. Shortly after moving to Connecticut she met the love of her life, Lou, and together they built a life full of laughter, and love. Verna worked for the former Trumbull electric before raising her three girls, and retired from Edward’s after many years working the overnight shift in the bakery, treating her family to fresh donuts on Saturday mornings. Verna was the undisputed matriarch of her family—a title she wore with both authority and warmth. She raised her children with a firm hand and a tender heart, and when the six grandchildren came along, she happily leveled up to full-time Memere, passing down stories, hugs, unmatched holiday traditions, and just the right amount of fresh baked goods. For nearly sixty years, Verna was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Mercy Church, where her daily presence in the pews was as dependable as the sunrise. She attended every retreat she could, prayed tirelessly for friends, family, and strangers alike, and had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother, who surely greeted her with open arms. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and prayer for a forever grateful family who will miss her dearly and remember her fondly.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Deegan, Susan Melanson and her husband Donald, and Lisa Metayer and her husband Bob; her six adored grandchildren, Taylor Deegan and his fiancée Elizabeth Austin, Spencer Deegan, Kevin and Steven Melanson(Jocelyn Gregor), Stephanie Catania and her husband Nicholas, and Kaleigh Canu and her husband Mark; and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Catania, Jr. and Gianna Canu. She was predeceased by her sister, Cecile Carrier and her brother, Gerald Beaulieu, and leaves many nieces, nephews and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, Verna may be remembered with contributions to Our Lady of Mercy Church, 19 S. Canal St, Plainville, CT 06062.
