Thomas “Tom” Vaughn Bryant, 62, of Rocky Hill, loving father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20, 2026, following a lengthy illness he fought courageously. In his final act of kindness, Tom made the noble decision to become an organ donor, sharing the gift of life with others even in his passing.
Tom was born on September 4, 1963, in Austintown, Ohio son to the late Fred and JoAnn (Bledsoe) Bryant. Tom graduated from Ridgefield High School in 1982, where his bright intellect and love of learning set him apart even as a young man. He pursued higher education at Central Connecticut State University, where his thirst for knowledge surpassed the confines of textbooks. Tom served honorably in the United States Army National Guard, embodying the values of dedication and service that defined him as a proud American.
In his professional journey, Tom initially lent his talents to the insurance industry at the Watson Group but soon discovered his true calling as an entrepreneur. With a deep passion for trains that transcended a mere hobby, he opened his beloved hobby shop, Tom's Trains of CT, which he owned and operated for 33 years. The shop became more than just a place for model enthusiasts; it was a gathering spot for community members who shared Tom’s enthusiasm for the intricate world of railroads. Tom also ventured into the culinary world, partnering with his wife, Cristina, to open the charming restaurant, Sweet Pea. Together, they cultivated a warm and inviting atmosphere that brought joy and flavor to many.
Tom had a commanding presence, exuding charisma and warmth in every gathering. His keen sense of humor was a hallmark of his personality, as he had an uncanny ability to crack jokes and light up any room, making him the life of the party. Tom was known for his caring nature, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. He was a meticulous collector, displaying his beloved finds throughout his home, which became a reflection of his unique personality and passions.
Nature was Tom's sanctuary; he reveled in the beauty of his flower gardens and found solace in the company of the birds that frequented his outdoor space. In his younger years, he embraced an active lifestyle filled with running and biking, enjoying the great outdoors to its fullest. An animal lover to the core, Tom welcomed countless cats and dogs into his family over the years, treating them with the love and care they deserved.
Tom was also a devoted fan of the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State, remaining loyal through every victory and defeat. He enjoyed the game of chess, often engaging friends and family in friendly matches that illustrated both his strategic mind and competitive spirit.
Tom is survived by his daughter, Sandra Bryant and her husband, Larry, his grandson, Alexander, his sister, Cheryl Geiseke, his stepdaughter, Erika Bartucca, his close friend, Mary Janes, and his beloved black lab, Sadie. He was predeceased by his son, Gregory Bryant, his wife, Cristina Chang-Bryant, and his brother, Robert Bryant.
