Thomas Peter Zmijewski, 79, of Plainville, peacefully left this world with his family by his side on Monday, May 13, 2024. He was the husband of Christine (Pawlukiewicz), with whom he shared 54 years of love and life adventures.
Born on June 17, 1944 and raised in New Britain, he was the son of the late Stanley and Eunice (Mariotti) Zmijewski. Tom was a graduate of EC Goodwin Technical Institute with a degree in culinary arts, fulfilling his lifelong love for cooking. He enlisted in the US Navy following graduation, where he practiced his craft while dedicating six years to serving his country. After his military service, Tom embarked on a successful career, working for Guida's Dairy for close to twenty years, and later becoming a commercial baker. He worked for Gnazzo's for a short time, and retired from the bakery department at West Side Market in Rocky Hill after many years of providing delicious baked goods for his customers. An avid gardener and lover of the great outdoors, Tom shared this passion with his family, organizing unforgettable camping trips along the east coast. His love and dedication to his family was unwavering, and being surrounded by them brought him immense joy. He will be missed dearly, leaving a legacy of hard work, love, and lasting memories that will live on through the generations.
In addition to the love of his life, Christine, he leaves his son and daughter-in-law, David and Sherry Zmijewski, and his daughter Hailey Zmijewski; his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Marc Zmijewski, Justin Zmijewski and his husband Brandon, Sierra Davis and her husband Patrick, Ashley Birge and her husband Jared and his great grandchildren Gavin, Riley, Tyler, Emma, Logan, Hunter, Everly and Sadie. He was predeceased by his sister, Judy, and his son, Michael.
In lieu of flowers, Tom’s spirit and love for the outdoors may be remembered by planting a tree or contributing to your favorite charity.
Honoring Tom’s wishes, his family will celebrate his life with private services. The staff at Plainville Funeral Home extends their gratitude to the Zmijewski family for their trust. For online expressions of sympathy, please visit www.PlainvilleFuneralHome.com
