Thomas R. Papapietro, 71, of Plainville, passed away on July 3, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with illness.
Born on January 15, 1954 in Southington, Tom was the son of the late Rocco and Claire (McKnerney) Papapietro. A lifelong resident of Plainville, he graduated from Plainville High School with the Class of 1972.
Tom’s early passion for music led him to spend several years after high school touring as a talented performer, a path that ultimately brought him to his wife, Joanne (Perrotta), a fellow musician. He later found a long and fulfilling career as a mechanical designer with the Arthur G. Russell Company, where he proudly worked for 34 years before retiring in 2022.
Tom cherished his friendships deeply, especially those forged during his school days. One of his most treasured traditions was the annual Mount Washington trip, a 50-year reunion with high school friends filled with laughter, mock Olympics, and music, always highlighted by Tom’s performances.
Tom brought joy to many through the Glenwood Boxing Club he built in his backyard, where kids and families gathered for friendly matches. Winters were made special by the ice rink he created, and summers by the whiffle ball field that brought so much fun to the neighborhood in addition to helping out with James’ talent shows. He was the life of the party through his passion for music.
Tom is survived by his wife Joanne, their son James Papapietro, and his brother Mark Papapietro, all of Plainville. He also leaves behind his beloved aunt Ann Mele, several cousins, and many lifelong friends.
Family and friends may gather in celebration of Tom’s life on Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St, Plainville. Prayers and words of remembrance will be shared at 7 p.m. For online expressions of sympathy, please visit www.PlainvilleFuneralHome.com
