Theresa Wanner Obituary

Mrs. Theresa (Ley) Wanner, 81 of Southington, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday June 16, 2023 with her family by her side. She lived a life filled with love, happiness, and a deep commitment to her family.

Theresa was born in Hungary on July 31, 1941. She and her family survived oppressive forces, evacuating to Germany, which became East Germany. Years later her family saved to bribe a guard to escape past the iron curtain. Her family managed to settle in Lake Constance Germany before coming to the USA in 1957.

Theresa was the devoted wife of Fritz Wanner for 63 blissful years. They shared a love story that spanned decades, filled with laughter, joy, and a partnership that served as an inspiration to all who knew them. Together, they built a beautiful life and family, always putting each other first and cherishing every moment they spent together.

Theresa dedicated her life to creating a warm and welcoming home for her family. Her love and care were felt in every room, as she created spaces that were both beautiful and functional. She was also an invaluable assistant to her husband's contracting business, providing support and guidance that contributed to the company's success.

An amazing cook, Theresa was known for her delicious German specialties that delighted the taste buds of all who were fortunate enough to gather around her table. She was the heart of every family gathering, and her culinary creations will be remembered and cherished by all who had the pleasure of enjoying them. She loved to host visitors and always had a pot of coffee and baked treats ready to share. Her grandchildren always knew where to look for the "stash" of candy and cookies she kept hidden in the cupboards.

Theresa's talents extended beyond the kitchen, as she was also a skilled seamstress. She created beautiful clothing, window dressings and home décor items that showcased her innate ability to transform ordinary fabrics into extraordinary pieces. Her keen eye for detail and quality were evident in everything she created, and her passion for sewing was a true testament to her creativity.

A lover of nature, Theresa took great pride in tending to her flower gardens. She had a green thumb and a true appreciation for the beauty of the world around her. Her gardens were a reflection of her love for life and the joy she found in nurturing and watching her flowers bloom. Her love of nature made her practice conservation before it was commonplace. She made her own grocery bags and had been composting since the early 70's.

Theresa was a woman of many talents, but her greatest gift was her unwavering love for her family. She loved to laugh and be silly, especially with her grandchildren.   Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

In addition to her husband, Fritz, she leaves her four children, Linda Wanner-Guodace, Jeffrey Wanner and his wife Jessica, Christine Wanner and her wife Tami and Richard Wanner, her seven grandchildren Maximillian, Jillian, Carly, Blayne, Gabriella, Adeline and Olivia, two sisters Emi Arner and Frances Klein, and many nieces, nephews and longtime friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Anton & Frances Ley, and a brother Joseph Ley.
