Sylvia "Sue" Millerick Obituary

Sylvia (Margonelli) Millerick of Plainville passed peacefully into God’s hands on December 17, 2020. Daughter of the late Francis and Sylvia Margonelli, she was the devoted wife of 67 years to the late Eugene J. Millerick who predeceased her in 2013. Sylvia (Sue) is survived by her loving children and their families, William F. and Gail (Cail) Millerick of Plainville; Michele Millerick Erling and her husband Gordon of Bluffton, SC and their children Ben of Norwalk and Ashley of Barrington, RI; John and Kathy (Martone) Millerick of East Haven and their children Johnny of East Haven and Kayla Millerick Hopper, her husband Johnny and their daughter Mallory of Bradenton, FL; and James E. and Susan (Garro) Millerick of Burlington and their three children Madeline, James and Michael as well as a number of loving nieces and nephews including her God daughters Alberta Martucci, Sharon (Griffiths) Travis and Cindy (Margonelli) Ross. Sue was predeceased by her 5 siblings and their spouses. A devout Catholic, she was a lifelong communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church of Plainville.

Sue was born and raised in Plainville, Connecticut where she was active in many social and civic organizations. Sue served as a member of the Board of Directors of Catholic Family Services of CT Central Region; president of Plainville’s Visiting Nurse Association; founding member and Vice President of the Plainville Historical Society; a member of Catholic Daughters of America; the Allocations Committee of Plainville’s United Way, the Boy Scouts and local Parent-Teacher groups. For her volunteer efforts, Sue was recognized with many honors and awards, including Volunteer of the Year by the Plainville Chamber of Commerce, the Spirit of Caring Award by The United Way’s Plainville/Bristol chapter, and the Plainville Good Neighbor honor.

Christmas was her favorite time of year.  For over 30 years, Sue continued the tradition of baking and hand decorating hundreds of Santa Claus and Snowman cookies that delighted the young children hospitalized at Newington Children’s Hospital during the holiday season.

Sue was an avid and incredible hostess, frequently entertaining their friends and colleagues from the organizations she and her husband, Gene, served. Sue embodied the “hostess with the mostest” by sharing her culinary skills far and wide; preparing dozens of holiday cookies, cakes, pasta dishes of every variation, along with her trademark meatballs and sauce. Whether it was a family dinner, a holiday, a baby or bridal shower, a graduation, birthday or celebration of any sort, Sue prepared food for an army and was always happiest when people were gathered at her table.

Always an enthusiastic follower of fashion, Sue embraced the classic and the modern in style and continued to wear her pearls at 96 years old.  Highly creative, she had a knack for design and decorating and will be remembered for her beautiful handmade wreaths, lovely flower gardens and beloved home on Norton Trail.

Sue may be remembered with charitable donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org or the Petit Family Foundation, PO Box 310, Plainville, CT 06062 or www.petitfamilyfoundation.org

Services and burial will be private at this time.  A celebration of Sue’s life will be held in the future when we all can gather together again safely. The staff at Plainville Funeral Home extends their gratitude to the Millerick family for their trust.  For online expressions of sympathy, please visit Mrs. Millerick’s tribute page at www.PlainvilleFuneralHome.com
