Simone R. (Blair) Parenteau, 94, of Meriden passed away peacefully on Monday, June 30, 2025 in the comfort of her home with her loving daughter, Mariette, by her side. She was the beloved wife of 63 years to Lucien Parenteau, who predeceased her in 2014.
Simone was born on February 18, 1931 in Barton, Vermont daughter to the late Edmund and Aldea (Pelland) Blair. Raised on the family farm, West Glover Dairy Farm, Simone spent her adolescent years working alongside her family members, contributing her talent for milking the cows. She met the love of her life, Lucien, and together they settled in Meriden where they raised their family. Simone was a communicant of Saint Laurent Church in Meriden for many years prior to the churches merging. Following the merger of churches, she became a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish- Our Lady of Mount Carmel campus in Meriden.
Simone and Lucien owned a business in Meriden for many years before her employment at her “fun job,” the Hallmark store in the Meriden Mall. She made many lasting impressions on customers that came into the store, and she cherished the relationships she had with her colleagues. A lover of playing slot machines along with her natural gift of good luck, Simone was a frequent visitor to the casinos and was proud of her winnings through the years. Simone also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, cross-stitching and needlepointing. Her family will always remember her in the kitchen making her famous meat pies, Tourtiere, that everyone indulged as the delicious aroma infiltrated the entire house. In addition, she will fondly be remembered for her impressive holiday decor, most notable her Village 56, that was meticulously displayed each year for Christmas.
Simone is now reunited with her husband, and together may they rest peacefully in eternal rest as their family cherishes the memories they have shared over the years.
She is survived by her sons, George Parenteau and his wife, Fran, of Wallingford, Robert Parenteau, of California, and Claude Parenteau, of California; her daughters, Marie Parenteau of Florida, and Mariette Riss, of Meriden; her beloved grandchildren, Keith Bouchard, Michael Parenteau, Mark Riss, Amy Parenteau, Shelley Riss-Conant, Karyn Parenteau, Sarah Parenteau, and Wyatt Parenteau; her great-grandchildren, Katelin Bouchard and her husband, Carlos Jaramillo, Brittany Bouchard, Blaire Bouchard, Paetyn Conant, and Brianna Parenteau; and her four great-great grandchildren, Sophia Jaramillo, Ariana Jaramillo, Mila Jaramillo, and Noah Jaramillo. She was predeceased by her daughters-in-law, Doris Parenteau and Patricia Parenteau, along with her son-in-law, Robert Riss.
