Sharon Virginia Daniels

Sharon Virginia Daniels passed away peacefully on Monday, July 6, surrounded by her loving family. Sharon was born April 6, 1937 in Stamford to William and Charlotte Sucay Daniels. After losing her father at an early age, Sharon was raised by her mother with the loving assistance of her Aunt Gertrude Hill and the entire Sucay family. Sharon attended St. John’s school and Stamford High School, graduating in 1954. Sharon became a legal secretary and found great satisfaction working at the Stamford law firm Cummings & Lockwood. In 1961, Sharon married John (Jack) Daniels and had two children, Michael and Kathryn, whom she lovingly raised as a stay-at-home mother for their early life. She instilled in her children the appreciation of hard work, and the importance of showing up for friends and family.

In 1979, when Warren Eginton, a lawyer with whom she had worked previously at C & L, became a federal judge, he chose Sharon to be his Administrative Assistant. She served in the federal government with distinction for over 23 years. She enjoyed many lasting friendships with her colleagues, including the judge, his numerous law clerks, and fellow staff.

Sharon lived in Stamford until 1996, when she moved to Trumbull. She retired from the government in 2002 and spent her golden years playing tennis and golf, volunteering at the Connecticut Welcome Center, and sharing lunch with her friends in her “birthday group” and the Red Hat Society. She was an active member of the vibrant Trumbull Senior Center. She also struck up a remarkable friendship with Andrew Vill, whom she had known from her days at the Stamford German Club. More than anything, Sharon loved spending time with her children and their families and was a devoted grandmother to her cherished grandchildren.

In 2022, Sharon moved to Southington to be closer to family. She developed a lovely group of friends and neighbors in the Spring Lake Village playing Yahtzee and practicing tai chi and yoga.

Great food was a passion of Sharon’s and pastries were always a favorite. She firmly believed that “a decent cup of coffee” was the only way to start the day.

Sharon wanted to be remembered for her enjoyment of cooking and her love of travel, from international cruises and bus tours, to remote judicial postings in distant cities with Judge Eginton during his time as a Senior Judge, to simpler pleasures such as local bus trips and drives to the shore with her grandchildren.

Sharon is survived by her son, Michael Daniels and his wife Michele Daniels, of Plainville, her daughter Kathryn Daniels Knox and her husband Thomas Knox, of Bethesda, Maryland; by her grandchildren, Andrew Daniels (Lauren), Meghan Daniels D'Onofrio (Domenick), Edward Knox, William Knox, Elizabeth Knox, and Margaret Knox; brother Richard Lombardo (Pauline) of Leesburg, VA, niece Charlotte Steele (Grant) and nephew Joesph Lombardo (Jennifer).

Calling hours will be held Monday, July 13th from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad Street, Plainville, followed by a funeral mass at 11:30 at St. Matthew’s Church, 120 Church Ave., Bristol. Burial will take place Tuesday, July 14th at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Cemetery, 25 Camp Ave., Darien.
