Santo Gibilisco, 94, of Plainville, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026, at the Southington Care Center, following a battle with Alzheimer's disease. He is now reunited with his loving wife of 66 years, Venera (Alibrio) Gibilisco, who predeceased him in 2022.
Santo was born on January 18, 1932, in Solarino, Sicily, Italy son to the late Salvatore and Maria (Gervasi) Gibilisco. In 1970, Santo, alongside his cherished wife, Venera, made the courageous journey to the United States, bringing with them the values of family, tradition, and the warmth of Italian culture. Their two oldest children, Maria and Salvatore, accompanied them on this adventure, and in 1972, the family welcomed their youngest member, Santo.
Santo's love for his Italian heritage was evident in all aspects of his life. He served as a dedicated member of the Solarinesi Society of CT for many years, where he played an integral role in organizing picnics, parties, and gatherings that brought joy to many in the community. Santo loved food, particularly traditional Italian dishes, which were central to his life and gatherings. He was known for his love of gardening, and he had a remarkable talent for bringing people together, always willing to share a meal and foster connections in the company of others.
Santo devoted 26 years of his life to Tilcon/Tomasso, where his dedication and strong work ethic contributed significantly to the company. His retirement was a well-deserved respite after years of labor, and he cherished the friendships he made along the way.
Santo is survived by his three children, Maria Stoj and her husband, Bogdan, Salvatore Gibilisco, and Santo Sebastian Gibilisco and his wife, Melissa; his grandchildren, Allyson Stoj, Alessandra (Stoj) Goetz and her husband, Matthew, Michael Gibilisco and Olivia (Gibilisco) Colon and her husband, Enrique; and his great-grandchildren, Scarlet Vera Goetz and Giovanni Santo Colon. He also leaves behind many extended family members. Santo was predeceased by his brother, Salvatore Gibilisco.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St., Plainville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday, March 12 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 94 Broad St., Plainville. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Plainville.
