Salvatore Giudice, a hard-working family man and friend to many, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, April 3, 2026, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain at the age of 86.
Born in Libya, on January 14, 1940, Sal was one of three sons of the late Fortunato and Frances (Carfi) Giudice. He was raised in Sicily, where he developed a deep pride in his Italian heritage that remained with him throughout his life. At the age of 15, Sal immigrated to the United States, settling in New Britain. Upon starting his own family, he then moved to Plainville where he would build a life defined by hard work, resilience, and generosity.
Sal honorably served his country in the United States Army during early 1960’s. A craftsman at heart and self-taught handyman, Sal was known by family, friends, and neighbors as the reliable jack of all trades. Whether it was a small repair or a major project, Sal was happiest when helping others.
Sal dedicated over 30 years of his career to The Fafnir Bearing Company, where he formed lasting friendships and was fondly remembered long after for his kindness, strong work ethic, and easygoing nature. He then finished his career retiring from C&A Machine. Sal had an infectious personality and a natural ability to connect with people making friends wherever he went with his warmth and humor. In the last ten years of his life, he resided at Sage Pond in Berlin, where he found a second family among fellow residents who cherished his companionship. Sal was also a proud member of the Italian Social Club, the Generale Ameglio Society in New Britain, where he enjoyed celebrating his heritage and spending time with friends.
He is survived by his children, Stephen Giudice, Eric Giudice, James Giudice and his wife January; Kathy Davis and her husband Brian, Margaret Janicki, and Martin Janicki; and was a proud “Papa Nonno” to Alan, Lyndsey, Ryan, Samantha, Collin, Tyler, Charlotte, Jackson, Mason, Sydney and Asher. He also leaves his brother, John and his wife Marjorie; his former wives, Nancy Giudice and Barbara Janicki; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, including his best buddy Sal Aparo with whom he enjoyed countless espressos with sambuca. He was predeceased by his brother Phil.
In lieu of flowers, Sal may be remembered with contributions to a charity that is meaningful to the donor.
Family and friends may gather on Thursday, April 9th from 4-7 p.m. at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St, Plainville. A celebration of Sal’s life will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest privately at St. Mary Cemetery in New Britain.
