After a life lived to the fullest with passion and dedication, Russell George Baylock, sadly left this earthly life with his family by his side following a brief illness on May 23, 2024.
A Bristol native, standing tall at 6'8" with a distinctive mohawk, this gentle giant etched his name in the community, and holds the Mountain View School record for his outstanding long jump skills that still echo through the fields to this day. A man of hard work ethics from a young age, he was the banquet captain at Simsbury Inn while attending Bristol Eastern High School, and following graduation in 2005, he became professional iron worker by trade. Russ honed his craft during his career at Berlin Steel, overseeing numerous projects with skill and precision. He was a trusted member of Iron Workers Local #15 in Hartford, where his diligence and expertise were valued by all who knew him. More than just a skilled worker, Russ was a man of many talents and interests. From creating custom iron figurines for his loved ones to shredding the slopes on his snowboard and skateboarding all over New England, he embraced life with gusto and spirit. His passion for adventure extended to his love for all things automotive, as he proudly owned and maintained four Chevy Blazers, delighting in off-road escapades and four-wheeling muddy expeditions. Russ held tight to his Irish family values, sharing an unbreakable bond with his parents and his sister that will forever be cherished. May his spirit and larger than life presence continue to inspire all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He leaves his heartbroken parents, George and Jane (Giroux) Baylock and his sister and best friend Stephanie (Baylock) Sastri; his uncle James (Anne) Baylock; his aunts, Debi (Mark) Thomas and Linda Carpenter; and his cousins and their families, James (Beth) Baylock, Lori (Bob) Tomkiewicz, Sarah (Tom) McGrimley, Craig (Naomi) Thomas, Cindy (George) Pasiakos, and Cheryl (Craig) Fox. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Robert and Virginia Giroux and George and Bernice Baylock and his cousin Brian Carpenter.
Russ had a special place in his heart for his four legged companions, his Golden Retrievers, Sprocket and Casey, and may be remembered with contributions to the Connecticut Humane Society at www.cthumane.org or a favorite charity benefitting animals.
Family and friends may gather in celebration of Russ’ life on Saturday June 15, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St, Plainville. Words of remembrance led by life celebrant Jesse Gnazzo will be shared at 12:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest privately. For online expressions of sympathy, please visit www.PlainvilleFuneralHome.com
