Ronald David Demers, 80, longtime resident of Bristol, passed away after a short illness on Monday, January 17, 2022 at the Hospital of Central CT in New Britain. He was the devoted husband of 58 years to Marilea (Watkins) Demers. He is now reunited with his son, Andre David Demers, who predeceased him in August of 2004.
Ron was born on February 21, 1941 in New London, CT son to the late David and Helen (Bogue) Demers. Following high school, Ron served in the National Guard and was honorably discharged. He owned and operated his own business, Trader Ron, with the support of his wife, Marilea, and together they traveled to fairs throughout the states of CT, New York, Vermont, and Rhode Island as a vendor, sharing their passion for Western collectibles with others. He was a life-long member of the NRA. Ron was a lover of the ocean and was always up for a seafood dinner followed by his favorite ice cream for dessert. Above all, he was happiest surrounded by the love of his family as they were the center of his world. He absolutely adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a proud, loving family man who will be missed dearly by his loved ones.
In addition to his wife, Ron is survived by his daughters, Telsche Belanger and her husband, Thomas, and Theresa Royce; his grandchildren, Justin, Joshua and his fiancée, Shelby, Samantha and her husband, Jonathon, Jess, and Benjamin; his great-grandchildren, Emma, Noah, Owen and Stella; his siblings, Donald Demers and his wife, Marcia, Jeffrey Demers and his wife, Burgess, Barbara Oakes and her husband, Luther, and Janet Shrauger and her husband, Kevin.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Monday, January 24 from 11 AM to 12 PM at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St., Plainville. A service in celebration of Ron’s life will begin at 12 PM. Burial will follow in Forestville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
