Roger C. Roper

Roger C. Roper, devoted husband of Gail (Emond) Roper, proud father and grandfather, veteran, and lifelong friend to many, passed away on June 29, 2026. He was 72.

Born in Bristol on December 30, 1953, Roger was the son of the late Clifford and Dorothy (Snyder) Roper. Raised and educated in Plainville, he formed many lifelong friendships and developed the hometown pride that remained with him throughout his life.

Following graduation, Roger enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. He proudly served for four years and was honorably discharged in 1976, carrying with him a deep respect for his fellow veterans and the freedoms they defended.

In 1979, Roger married the love of his life, Gail. After a brief time in Southington, they returned to Plainville, where they raised their two sons and created a home that was always welcoming to family and friends. In later years, Roger embraced his favorite role of all-"Grandpa." Nothing brought him greater joy than watching his grandchildren grow, cheering them on at their activities and events, and making memories with them.

Roger possessed an incredible mechanical mind and took immense pride in his work as a skilled toolmaker. Employed by several manufacturing companies throughout his career, including Connecticut Spring and Pratt & Whitney, he earned a reputation for his knowledge, precision, and ingenuity. Roger delighted in solving problems and was known to give engineers a run for their money with his practical expertise and innovative thinking.

When he wasn't at work, Roger could usually be found outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, he appreciated the peace and challenge that nature provided. He also enjoyed golfing, pitching horseshoes, and playing softball whenever the opportunity arose. Roger loved a little friendly competition, whether it was darts, bowling, cribbage, setback, or family game nights. While he could hold his own in almost any game, he often found himself happily being outplayed by his grandchildren during spirited rounds of UNO—a defeat he wore with pride.

A lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants, Roger never missed the chance to cheer on his teams, celebrating their victories and enduring their losses with equal passion.

Above all else, Roger will be remembered for the kind of man he was. Helpful, selfless, and incredibly handy, he was the person family, friends, and neighbors knew they could count on. His easygoing nature, generous heart, and ability to get along with just about everyone left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In addition to his wife, Gail, Roger leaves behind his sons Clifford (C.J.) Roper and his wife Kristin, and Brian Roper and his wife Sarah; his adored grandchildren, Nicolas, Presley, Madison, Owen and Liam, with the newest addition joining the family on June 30th.  He also leaves his sister, Pauline Hepple, his brother-in-law David Emond and his wife Mary, and many nieces, nephews and their families.  He was predeceased by his siblings, Doug Roper, Janet Billings, and Marcia Wynne, and his grandson, Anthony Roper.
