Robert "Bob" A. Savard

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Robert A. Savard, 86, of Plainville, affectionately known as "Bob," who passed away following a brief illness on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain General Campus. Bob is now reunited with his beloved wife, Sandra "Sandy" (Deming) Savard, the love of his life and wife of 45 years, whom he missed every day since her passing in 2011.
Bob was born on April 17, 1940, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, to the late Henry and Germaine (Mecteau) Savard. A highly skilled craftsman, he was a carpenter by trade before beginning a distinguished career at Pratt & Whitney, where he worked for more than 30 years. He retired at the age of 55 as a General Foreman.
Bob met Sandy in the 1960s at a roller rink, where the two eventually became managers together. Their chance meeting blossomed into a lifelong love story. After being drafted into the U.S. Army, Bob was stationed in Texas, where he flew helicopters in support of medical rescue missions. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home, asked Sandy to marry him in 1966, and together they built a loving family, welcoming two daughters soon afterward.
Racing was one of Bob's greatest passions. He spent much of his free time at the racetrack, first as a racer himself and later as a devoted fan who rarely missed an opportunity to be trackside. His love of racing and building engines led to lifelong friendships, and countless weekends were spent camping or hanging out at the track with Sandy and sharing the excitement with their family. The racing community became an extension of his own family—a close-knit circle of friends he treasured throughout his life.
Bob was a proud member of the American Legion and an avid fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants. He also found great joy in his daily visits to "the garage," American & Foreign Carburetor & Electric, where he could indulge his love of cars, lend a helping hand, and spend time with his dear friends Matt and Alex D'Angelo, along with the many others who stopped by. Whether rebuilding an engine, restoring a classic car, or tackling a simple repair, Bob was always generous with his time and knowledge. His warm personality, quick wit, and welcoming nature made it easy for everyone to consider him a friend. When it was time to relax, he enjoyed sharing a Budweiser with those he loved. Bob was a simple man who found happiness in life's routines, the people he cared about, and doing the things he loved most.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Michelle Marceau and her significant other, Rick Ceravolo, of Groton, and Darlene Savard Bruce and her husband, Eddie Bruce Jr., of Plainville; his cherished grandchildren, Justin Marceau and his fiancée, Katie Kelly, and Branden Savard, and his step-grandson, Eddie Bruce III; as well as the many lifelong friends he made at the racetrack and through the doors of American & Foreign Carburetor & Electric. In addition to his beloved wife, Sandy, and his parents, Bob was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Savard.
One of Bob's favorite memories was bringing home a parrot named Otis from one of his trips to Florida. Otis quickly became a beloved member of the family, often talking back and carrying on conversations with Bob, creating countless moments of laughter over the years. Bob also leaves behind his faithful feathered companion, Otis, who remained a cherished part of the family.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Sunday, August 2, 2026 from 2 to 4 PM at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad Street, Plainville. A prayer service will be held at 4 PM at the funeral home. Bob will be laid to rest with his wife, Sandy, at the CT State Veterans Cemetery privately at a later date.
