Robert "Bob" Albrecht

Robert "Bob" Albrecht, 79, of Plainville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at The Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain, surrounded by the love of his devoted wife of 56 years, Donna (Brentnall) Albrecht, who remained faithfully by his side.
Bob was born on October 23, 1946, in Meriden, Connecticut, to the late Werner and Claire (Neuhauser) Albrecht. He was raised in Farmington, where he developed the strong work ethic, quiet determination, and practical skills that would remain hallmarks of his life. Bob graduated from Farmington High School before continuing his education at Ward Technical College in Hartford, where he earned an associate degree in electronics. Even while attending college, his talent and dedication were evident, and he began working for General Electric, gaining valuable hands-on experience in the field he loved.
With a natural aptitude for technology and problem-solving, Bob went on to enjoy a successful career as an Electronic Products Engineer with PMP Corporation in Avon, a company specializing in service station equipment. Drawing upon his extensive knowledge of electronics and reverse engineering, he played an important role in remanufacturing and restoring electronic components used in fuel dispensing systems. His technical expertise, attention to detail, and willingness to share his knowledge earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. After many years of dedicated service, Bob retired, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and excellence.
Bob met the love of his life, Donna, through a mutual friend, beginning a beautiful journey together that would span 56 wonderful years of marriage. Their relationship was built on love, companionship, and mutual devotion. They truly enjoyed doing everything together, always by one another's side through every season of life. Together they created a lifetime of cherished memories, embracing every opportunity for adventure and exploring the world. Their travels took them to destinations including Germany, Alaska, Hawaii, and many other favorite places, experiences that enriched their lives and deepened the bond they shared.
Although Bob and his wife did not have children, their lives were rich with love, laughter, and the simple joy of spending time together. They remained active throughout the years, sharing hobbies, friendships, and countless everyday moments that brought them happiness. Their partnership was a true testament to the strength of lifelong love and companionship.
Bob enjoyed keeping his mind sharp and relished the challenge of strategy games. An avid chess player, he faithfully attended the Farmington Senior Center every Tuesday and Thursday, where he enjoyed both the competition and the camaraderie of fellow players. He was equally fond of card games and regularly visited the Plainville Senior Center to play with friends. Wednesdays often found him at IHOP in Southington, where he gathered with fellow card enthusiasts for friendly games and lively conversation. No matter the activity, his wife was always by his side, sharing in the friendships and experiences they both treasured.
In addition to his technical abilities, Bob possessed a remarkable talent for woodworking. He took great pride in creating beautiful and functional pieces for his home, including stunning custom-built bookshelves that stretched across the walls. His craftsmanship reflected his patience, precision, and creativity, and the projects he completed remain lasting reminders of his skillful hands and thoughtful nature.
Bob will be remembered for his intelligence, gentle spirit, dedication to his work, and the deep love he shared with his wife. He found joy in learning, building, traveling, and spending time with friends, leaving behind countless memories that will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.
Bob is survived by his wife, Donna Albrecht, of Plainville, his sister, Elizabeth Flesh, of Ft. Myers, Florida, his cousin, Arthur “Chippy” Iwanicki, of Maryland, and many friends. 
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 10 AM to 11 AM at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad Street, Plainville. A service in celebration of Bob’s life will begin at 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
