Robert (Bob) Michael Karas, age 88 of New Britain, CT, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 30, 2022.
Bob was born in St. Albans, New York on December 2, 1933. The son of Joseph and Rose Karas, Bob grew up in Richmondville, NY. where he graduated from Richmondville High School and went on to get his Associates Degree from SUNY Cobleskill. Bob served in the Armed Forces from 1951-1955 in bases from New York, to Indiana, and Colorado. After the service, Bob moved to Collinsville, CT to be with family. He started his career at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, CT where he worked for 29 years. After retirement, Bob worked in the New Britain School system as a parent liaison, as a crossing guard, and eventually with his best friend, Tom Hall, at the local corner “Your Store."
While at Pratt & Whitney, he met his wife, Laura (Sansone) Karas, and they were married for 51 years.
Bob is survived by his wife and their daughter, Tammy Karas, of New York, NY. Bob also leaves behind his brother-in-law Rocky Sansone and his wife Christine, his nephew John Whittaker and his wife Kate, his niece Lisa Pelletier and her husband Stephen, in addition to many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his mother, father, and his sister Jean and her husband John.
Bob was beloved by many friends in the community and was family to his special longtime neighbors, Lorraine & Carl Vilas. Bob loved to spend time with his family in upstate NY, Maine, Charleston, Savannah and most of all, Walt Disney World. His favorite pastimes included watching UCONN Women’s Basketball and his favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees.
Family and friends may gather on Friday, October 7, 2022, from 4-6 p.m. at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St, Plainville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., meeting directly at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 94 Broad St, Plainville.
