Ricky Petit, 61, a kindhearted and familiar face around Plainville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 30, 2026, with his family by his side.
Born in Bristol on June 22, 1964, he was one of two children to Clara (Desmarais) Petit and the late Kenneth Petit. A graduate of Plainville High School, Ricky was known throughout the community for his infectious sense of humor and unmistakable personality. Whether he was sporting one of his signature “Grumpy” t-shirts or sharing a laugh with friends, he had a way of brightening even the simplest of days.
Ricky enjoyed life in his own unique and memorable way. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and ice hockey, often found cheering on his favorite drivers and teams. He also had a deep love for country music, which provided the soundtrack to many of his happiest moments.
In recent years, Ricky made his home at New Horizons, where he formed meaningful friendships that became like a second family to him. He brought joy to that community, often seen cruising around on his beloved fire engine scooter with his loyal dog happily along for the ride—a sight that became a cherished and familiar part of daily life there.
Ricky’s love for animals, especially dogs, was well known, and his gentle, caring nature extended to all creatures. Above all, he will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, and the genuine warmth he shared with everyone he met.
In addition to his mom, Clara, he leaves his sister, Debra Wells and her husband Michael; his niece and nephew, Devan and Ashley Giddix and great-niece, Lane Giddix. He also leaves his aunts and uncles, Louise Luminati, William Babcock, William Petit, Sr., Sharon Beaulieu and Gary Petit, along with many cousins. He was predeceased by his aunts, Margaret Everett, Madeline Babcock, and Beverly Joyce; and his uncles, Paul Babcock, Mark, Donald, Eddie, and Charles Petit.
In lieu of flowers, Ricky may be remembered with contributions to the Petit Family Foundation, PO Box 310, Plainville, CT 06062 or http://www.petitfamilyfoundation.org
