Richard "Dick" J. Thibeault, 89, of Plainville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. He is now reunited with his beloved wife of 70 years, Marlene “Jane” (Cookson) Thibeault.
Richard was born on November 28, 1936, in New Britain, CT, son to the late Aime and Florence (Julian) Thibeault. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict before starting a family. A lifelong resident of Plainville, he worked 28 years at General Electric and enjoyed his time driving a school bus for his community.
Dick was well-known for racing the "58" car at Plainville Stadium in the 1960's- early 70's. He had a deep love for racing—a tradition woven into the fabric of his family and passed down through his son, grandson and great-grandson. Whether at the track, in the garage, or sharing stories, this passion connected him closely with those he loved.
He cherished spending time with his wife, especially their many casino trips and adventures to Atlantic City. He also enjoyed playing cards with his family and close friends.
Richard is survived by his sons, Richard A. Thibeault, Michael Thibeault and his wife, Deborah, and Jeffrey Thibeault and his fiancée Rene; his grandchildren, Matthew Thibeault, Shawn Thibeault and wife, Nichole, Nicole Pavelchak and husband, Tommy, Richard A. Thibeault Jr., and their mother Francine; his great-grandchildren, Logan and Lianna Thibeault; and several extended family members. He will always be remembered as the strong, quiet patriarch of his small family.
Family and friends may gather in celebration of Richard’s life on Thursday, April 23, 2025, from 5 to 7 PM at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St, Plainville. Words of remembrance will be shared at 7 PM. In honor of Richard’s service to our country in the U.S. Air Force, full military honors will be accorded at the funeral home.
