Richard L. "Rich" Nordgren

Richard L. “Rich” Nordgren, 78, of Plainville passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Bristol Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Diane (Hebert) Nordgren. Together they shared 56 loving years of marriage.

Rich was born on May 17, 1943 in New Britain, son to the late Lawrence V. and Beatrice (Davis) Nordgren. Rich retired from Aetna as an Analyst in 1998. He had a love for sports as he was very knowledgeable and passionate about basketball and volleyball. He was a certified referee for both sports and participated in doing the shot clock for college basketball for many years. Rich enjoyed every minute of being involved in the games and it brought him true excitement. It was following his retirement that he took up the game of golf, realizing his true passion. Golf was his ultimate favorite sport and any chance he got he would be out on the green playing alongside his friends. Rich played golf locally in many courses, but in the month of April took a trip to Florida with his buddies playing around the clock, a trip he certainly always cherished. Rich played golf up until the day his ailments did not allow him to. In a better place now, Rich is playing a round of golf on the greenest of greens in clear blue skies, leaving his family comforted with many loving memories.

In addition to his wife Diane, Rich is survived by his daughter Deborah Nordgren, of Bristol; his sister, Lauren Grant and her husband Thomas, of Kensington; his brother-in-law Leo Hebert and his wife Elizabeth, of Bristol; his sister-in-law’s Jean Leech and her husband Allen, of MI and Shirley Rickis and her husband Al, of FL; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was predeceased by his brother Kenneth Nordgren.

Family and friends are welcome to gather at the Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St., Plainville on Friday, September 24 from 5 to 8 PM. A prayer service in celebration of Rich’s life will be held at 7:45 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rich can be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd, Newington, CT 06111. The staff at Plainville Funeral Home extends their appreciation to Rich’s family for their trust.
