Richard McDougall Sr. Obituary

Richard A. McDougall Sr., affectionately known as “Dick,” 87, of Southington passed away peacefully with his family at his side on October 4, 2024. He was the proud husband of Phyllis McDougall for 66 years, and fortunate father of three great children, Richard McDougall Jr. and his wife Mary, Karen Roy and her husband Karl, Pamela Sherman and her husband Jim, who all survive him, as well as the resulting grandchildren – Jennifer, Richard III, Brianna, David (DJ), and the late Cassandra. He was then blessed with five great-grandchildren – Tyler, Mason, Yanni, Iliana, Ava and another baby boy well on the way. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Delmar and Georgia Cox as well as his brother Colon and Colon’s wife Jeneanne.

Dick enjoyed a full life as a native and lifelong New Englander who spent his entire life from Northern Maine to Massachusetts and Connecticut with no desire to relocate to warmer climate after he retired. He found his fulfillment with his family and friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, coworkers and associates he encountered along his long and satisfying life’s journey. In his final indiscretions, he did admit that he enjoyed his casino trips with his best friend Bart, while they were coworkers and remained friends after working together in his final retirement job at Bailey Funeral Home in Plainville.

Dick retired from the former Connecticut Light and Power Company (CL&P) in 1994 after over 30 years of service and final assignment job as the budget and operations analyst in the Cheshire office.  After his early retirement, he kept busy by becoming a temporary consultant for the power company, sold and handled RV rentals, did demonstration work for one of the wholesale warehouse locations, sold cars for a dealer in Farmington and finally undertook funeral assistant work, which he enjoyed the most.  He received the most satisfaction from dealing with the customer clientele and sparking up great conversations with everyone that he interacted with.

Services in celebration of Dick’s life will be held privately at the discretion of his family. The staff at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad Street, Plainville extends their gratitude to Dick’s family for their trust. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dick may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168 or by going to https://www.dana-farber.org/.
