Rena (Bouchard) Charette, 86, passed away on Friday, October, 13 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born on February 22, 1937 and was the second born of 11 children to the late Albert and Clara (LaFerriere) Bouchard. She was born and raised in Wallagrass, Maine, on Soldier Pond and married her beloved husband Edmund Charette in 1955.
As a young couple with four children and a newborn, Rena insisted on moving in search of better opportunities. They eventually settled in Plainville, Connecticut, where they welcomed two more children and made a beautiful home where everyone felt loved and welcomed. Rena’s home was a place in which her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all knew everyone was welcome. Friends and family gathered frequently. Because of Rena’s tenacity and drive, her children were provided with more education and opportunities than she had. She had the unique ability to be bold and outspoken, while at the same time displaying empathy and acceptance. This rare combination is what empowered and inspired people around her. Despite the hardships she experienced, she was always smiling and truly enjoyed life. Much of her amusement came from watching others experience joy. Her laughter, along with the many memories she created with her family, will live forever in everyone’s hearts
Rena is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Edmund, son Brian, and siblings Blanche Nadeau, Pricilla Jandreau, Normand Bouchard, and Wallace Bouchard.
She is survived by her children, Greta Cousins of Augusta, ME; Gary (Lisa) of Cromwell, CT; Edmund Jr. of Eagle Lake, ME; Lisa (Steve) Rowe of Plainville, CT; Lynn (Scott) Calloway of Simpsonville, SC; and Bruce of Farmington, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond and made her home for the past eight years; and Dan Bailey; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She also leaves behind siblings Nancy Shampang, Sally Siemiatoski, Melford Bouchard, Joseph Bouchard, Roger Bouchard, and Albert Bouchard Jr., many nieces, nephews, friends, and her two cats Camille and Clara.
Special thanks to her two incredible caregivers Janet Emmanual and Pascual Ruiz who provided Rena not only with support but love and true kindness.
In lieu of flowers, Rena may be remembered with contributions to the Services for the Elderly, Inc., 321 New Britain Ave., Unionville, CT 06085; or to the charity of the donor’s choice, preferably one to benefit our veterans or animals.
