Raymond R. DiFrancesco, 88, of Plainville passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at the Hospital of Central CT New Britain General Campus.
Ray was born on October 9, 1935 in New Britain, CT son to the late Rocco and Jennie (Vincenti) DiFrancesco. He grew up in New Britain, attended local schools and graduated from New Britain High School. Following high school graduation, Ray began his long-time career with the City of New Britain, highly respected in his profession and known as a dedicated and valued employee. During his employment with the city, Ray enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served our country in the Army 82nd Airborne stationed in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. While stationed in North Carolina, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann (Vick) DiFrancesco, with whom he shared 59 loving years of marriage until her passing in 2016. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Ray and Elizabeth settled in Connecticut to raise their family and Ray returned to work with the City of New Britain, retiring as the General Foreman in the Parks Department after 25 years of dedication.
An avid outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening and landscaping, Ray owned and operated his own landscaping business for over 20 years, all during the course of his career with the city and following retirement. His impeccable lawn served as a testament to his green thumb and pride he took in his efforts to keep things tidy. Ray became a notorious grounds laborer for Tilcon in Plainville, continuing to relish in his passion for landscaping while appreciating the outdoors. In addition, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ray was a lover of all sports, especially the UCONN College Basketball teams. He religiously watched each game, proudly rooting for them.
Ray is survived by his daughters, Carol A. Sisti and Donna Dickerson; his daughters-in-law, Donna DiFrancesco and France DiFrancesco; his 8 grandchildren, Raymond, Jennifer, TJ, Eric, Kelly, Alice, Leah and Tyler; his 3 great-grandchildren, Nya, Koleten, and Everett; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his sons, Raymond J. DiFrancesco and Alan L. DiFrancesco and his seven siblings; 6 sisters and 1 brother.
Honoring his wishes, a private family gathering will be held in Connecticut and burial will take place in North Carolina, where Ray will be laid to rest next to his wife, Elizabeth. The staff at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad Street, Plainville extends their appreciation to the DiFrancesco family for their trust.
