Randall John “Randy” Colter, 67, of Southington, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 after a lengthy illness. He was the devoted husband of Dena (Ziel) Colter for 28 years.
Randy was born on March 19, 1956 in Southington, son to the late John and Dolores (McSorley) Colter, always proud of his Irish Heritage. Randy dedicated many years to working as a machinist at Pratt & Whitney, where he met many life-long friends, and retired from the Union after 35 years of service. He was a former volunteer fireman for the Plainville Fire Department proudly serving for the better of his community. He was a very generous man, with a big heart, who would always lend a helping hand. Randy was known for his great sense of humor, his love of history, his firm handshake, his lack of patience, his fierce loyalty to his friends and his tendency to repeatedly tell the same stories. He enjoyed golfing, softball, bowling, and rooting on his favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees. A lover of music, Randy would sing his heart out during family and friends karaoke nights, always humble about his talented voice, never wanting anyone to tell him how good he was. He was a huge movie buff, he loved historical and action films and was known to binge watch the Rocky franchise. A big teddy bear himself; he had a soft spot for all animals, with a special place in his heart for his beloved dogs. Randy had a love for all things history and would often share his favorite Abe Lincoln quote: "The two most important days of your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why." Leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness, Randy will be missed as his family and friends cherish the memories they have shared over the years.
In addition to his wife of 28 years, Dena Colter, Randy leaves behind his sons, John Colter, Adam Colter and his wife, Angela; his grandchildren, Alicia Colter and Jacob Colter; his sister, Jacqueline Posadas and her husband, James; his aunts, Theresa St. Pierre and Diane Brenner; his nieces and nephews, Shannon Hughes, David Posadas, Brian Colter, Nicole Colter, Sandy Navarro, and Julio Figueroa; his great nieces and nephews, Julissa Figueroa and Julio Figueroa Jr.; his brother from another mother, Peter Tirado; his Godchildren Rebecca Gillespie and Peter Tirado Jr.; his fur baby, Chloe; and several extended family members, friends, and colleagues. He was predeceased by his brothers, Michael Colter and Richard Colter and his dog, Murphy.
A Celebration of Randy’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 28 at 7 PM at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St., Plainville. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home between 4 and 7 PM on Wednesday. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
