Obituary

Peter A. Flint, 78, of Bloomfield, CT and Chatham, MA passed away peacefully on September 16, 2023.  Born in Worcester, MA on March 29, 1945, Peter was the only son of Clarence E. Flint and Doris E. (Shekleton) Flint. Residing in Worcester, MA until 1954, his family moved to the community of Edgebrook in New Brunswick, NJ where he attended New Brunswick High School.  Peter continued his education at Rutgers University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business and Economics in 1967 and he was a proud member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

After graduating from Rutgers University, Peter worked for the United States Statistical Reporting Service until enlisting in the Army, where he would attend Army Officers Candidate School (OCS). Peter graduated from OCS in 1968 as a second lieutenant and in 1969 received orders to serve in Vietnam with the 25th Division through July, 1970. Peter earned a number of awards during his service including the National Defense Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Air Medal (2 awards), Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, two Overseas Service Bars, and the Bronze Star Medal.

Upon completion of his military service, Peter returned to live with his family in East Longmeadow, MA where he started his career in insurance. While working at the Insurance Company of North America (INA) and later Cigna, Peter met and married Paula A. Nevelos with whom he built a home in Bloomfield, CT and raised two daughters. Peter continued to work for Cigna until 1990 and later worked for both Aetna and Travelers.  For many years, Peter was also an active member of the Bloomfield Civitan Club where he volunteered and raised funding for the Special Olympics of Connecticut.  Peter retired from Travelers in 2011.

In retirement, Peter loved to spend time with his wife, daughters, and grandchildren in both Connecticut and his home away from home, Chatham, MA.  He had a passion for genealogy and loved to share his knowledge of family history.  Peter also adored his grand-animals and could often be found taking his grand-dogs for walks to the park.

Peter is survived by his beloved family, including his wife of 49 years, Paula Flint, daughter Amy (Richard) Hoffman, daughter Kari Flint, grandsons Aedan and Ethan Hoffman, brother-in-law William (Mary) Nevelos, sister-in-law Cynthia Nevelos, and nephews Scott Nevelos and Michael (Deb Caswell) Nevelos.

Services and burial for Peter will be celebrated privately. There are no calling hours. Donations in Peter’s memory may be made to the Special Olympics of Connecticut (www.soct.org) or the Connecticut Humane Society (www.cthumane.org).
