Michael "Mike" Y. Belanger

Michael “Mike” Y. Belanger, 73, of Bristol, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at the Hospital of Central CT in New Britain. He was the loving and devoted husband to Sandra “Sandy” (Cyr) Belanger for 48 years.

Mike was born on July 30, 1949 in Brunswick, Maine, son to the late Theresa (Belanger) Raffeld. He grew up in Maine and attended the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine, majoring in Math. Mike moved to CT and worked for Zayre Department Store for over 20 years, in charge of the inventory for multiple stores, and it was at the Southington location that he met his wife, Sandy. Mike and Sandy married on September 20, 1975 and together settled in Bristol where they raised their son. Mike also worked at Cigna as a UTC Processor following his employment at Zayre. Mike was an avid crossword and jigsaw puzzle solver, using his vast knowledge to solve and complete them. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed rooting for the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Above all, he was most happy spending time with family and looked forward to family gatherings and trips. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Mike will be missed deeply but his loved ones take comfort in knowing he is at peace.

In addition to his wife, Sandy, Mike is survived by his son, Ken Michaud and his wife, Viki; his grandson, Derek Wilson and his wife, Ashley Hoffman, Matthew Michaud, Ashley Michaud, and Makenzie Michaud; his great-grandchildren, Alexis Laferriere and Zoey Wilson; his fur-baby, Patches; his best friends, Jimmy Corrigan and his wife, Sandy, Ed Wishart and his wife, Lola, and Bill Brady and his wife, Diane and Barbara Daigle; along with several extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his siblings, Donald Belanger, Irene Raffeld, and Christopher Raffeld.

Friends and family are welcome to gather on Friday, July 7 from 10 AM to 12 PM at the Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad Street, Plainville. A service in celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 12 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
