Michael John Bakaysa, Jr. 77, a resident of Bristol, whose heart remained in his hometown of Plainville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 27, 2023. He was the husband of Patricia (DuBois) Bakaysa.
Born on May 19, 1946, he was one of two sons to the late Michael John and Ida (Pedrolini) Bakaysa. A 1964 graduate of Plainville High School, he went on to earn his Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering from Hartford State Technical College. Mike proudly served his country in the US Air Force for four years during Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1969. A successful and hard-working self-employed contractor for over 50 years, he quickly made friends with countless customers and business associates along the way. Having played many sports over his life, he continued this lifelong love through coaching and helping establish numerous youth teams in both Forestville and Plainville. He was honored with many awards for his efforts, including becoming a U.S. Jaycees Ambassador and Life Member and a Plainville Sports Hall of Fame inductee in 2014, both of which he continued to volunteer for until his passing. A devoted family man, he especially beamed with pride watching his grandchildren excel in their many endeavors. His presence will be missed by his adored family and by the town that he was tirelessly dedicated to making better.
In addition to his wife, Patricia, he leaves his son, Michael John Bakaysa, his wife Shannon and their children, Michael John V and Maryssa Bakaysa; his extended family Amber (Jimmy) Morales, D’Avanté Santiago, Zackary Morales, Aria Morales, and Drue Dziados. He was predeceased by his brother, David Bakaysa and leaves his niece Tasha Plourde, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and wide circle of friends.
In lieu of flowers, Mike may be remembered with contributions to the House of Heroes Connecticut, 3342 Whitney Ave, Hamden, CT 06518 or www.hohct.org
