Matthew A. Lapane, 61, of Middletown, formerly of Plainville, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, August 11, 2025. He will be remembered for his big heart, sense of humor, and bright smile.
Born and raised in Bristol, he was one of three children to the late Frederick Marshall Lapane and Mona (Black) Lapane. He attended St. Joseph School and graduated from Bristol Central High School, earning his Bachelor’s Degree from Charter Oak State College. He spent a decade serving as a Plainville Police officer, where he formed an unbreakable bond and friendship with his partner, Matt LaBarre, with whom he is now reunited to patrol the heavens. Matt found peace by the ocean, particularly along the shores of Newport, Rhode Island. He was a diehard fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Boston Red Sox. Matt’s faith was steady throughout his life, and he carried a quiet strength grounded in his love for the Lord. He also gave back as a mentor with Big Brothers / Big Sisters, offering guidance, laughter, and encouragement to those who needed it most. Above all, he was kind hearted and the guy who could light up a room with a joke and a grin. He will be missed by the many lives he touched and the simple joys he brought to each day.
Matt is survived by his brother Bradford Lapane, his wife Marissa and their sons Bryce and Carson; his sister Bethany Ludwick and her husband Jon; his girlfriend and best friend, Beverly Chambers, and their pups that Matt adored, Daisy, Mini Moo and Gus; his aunt Barbara Doherty; and many cousins.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Plainville Police Association, 19 Neal Ct, Plainville, CT 06062
