Mary Cassidy Obituary

Mary Isabel (Posadas) Cassidy, 91, of Plainville, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Sunday February 28, 2021, and was reunited with her husband of 61 years, Robert R. Cassidy, in time to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

Born in Plainville on December 12, 1929, she is last surviving of ten children to the late Juan Antonio and Ceferina (Otero) Posadas.  A lifelong resident, “Mama” as she was affectionately known, remained in her hometown upon her marriage to her childhood sweetheart and neighbor, Bob, where they raised their five children and enjoyed watching their family grow for three more generations.  Mary, who was so proud of her Spanish heritage, was a devoted mother and grandmother, and embraced being surrounded by her family. She created priceless memories, traditions of weekly dinners and loved decorating for her favorite holiday Christmas. She made magnificent quilts and left precious heirlooms for her loved ones to enjoy.  Mama was the go to babysitter and would drop everything when her family needed help to assist with any home projects, including helping her father build the garage at the family home on Canal St. while her brothers were off fighting the war.  She would never say no when asked for help! She was the life of the party and will be fondly remembered for sense of humor, silliness and her ability to make everyone laugh.

She is survived by her children, Kathleen Drozd of Plainville, Robert K. Cassidy and his wife Rebecca of Westbrook, Maureen Cassidy and Sarah B. Cassidy, both of Plainville; her son-in-law, David Snyder of Plainville; her grandchildren, Craig (Kim) Drozd, Matthew (Megan) Cassidy, Amy (Simon) Ward, Sarah (Ken) Tessier, and David Snyder; her great-grandchildren, Hazel Rose Cassidy, Nathan and Meghan Snyder, Nelson (Shannon) Drozd, Ashley (Dan) Varano, Emily and Julia Tessier, and Arran and Evan Ward; her great-great granddaughter, Anaïs Varano, and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of a great-grandson and a great-great grandson.  She also leaves her brother-in-law, Donald (Lil) Cassidy and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her daughter, Colleen Snyder, her son-in-law, Paul Drozd, her granddaughter-in- law, Kristin Snyder, her brothers, Ray, Joseph, Angelo, Philip, and Anthony and her sisters, Josephine, Mary Jean, Angelita, and Juana.

Mary’s love for animals may be remembered with contributions to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd, Newington, CT 06111 or to a charity meaningful to the donor that will benefit animals.

Family and friends may gather in celebration of Mama’s life on Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St, Plainville.  A prayer service led by Father Raymond Smialowski will be held at 11:00 a.m., followed by committal at St. Joseph Cemetery.  Guests are asked to attend in accordance with CDC guidelines, wear face coverings and practice social distancing.  For online expressions of sympathy, please visit Mary’s tribute page at www.PlainvilleFuneralHome.com
