Lloyd Wark Obituary

Lloyd E. Wark passed away on June 28, 2023 at the age of 84. Lloyd was born in Caribou, Maine on May 9, 1939. Lloyd was the son of Mona Mullin Wark and Thomas Sherman Wark.

He graduated from Caribou High School in 1957, and served in the US Army Reserves. Lloyd was employed by the Caribou Police Department, as well as the B&A Railroad, before his family moved to Connecticut. He then joined the Plainville Police in 1966 and retired as a Sergeant in 1986. He made many lifelong friends while with the Plainville PD and had many fond memories of his years of service. The work came with many challenges, but Lloyd was someone that was respected by his fellow officers and he enjoyed Police work.

Lloyd had a love for fishing and hunting. These were his passions that he enjoyed all his life with his friends and family. After his retirement, he and his wife, Gilda, moved back to their home state of Maine, settling this time in Brownville. Once back in Maine he worked for the railroad and also had joined the local Brownville Police Department. In addition, Lloyd became a licensed Maine Guide, continuing his love of the outdoors and hunting, while happily sharing it with others.

Once the cold winters of Maine became too much, he and Gilda headed south to Florida. There they enjoyed living on the Gulf Coast where they could enjoy the sunsets and boat trips out on the Gulf. Watching the beautiful sunsets over the Gulf from their dock was a favorite of Lloyd’s. Lloyd and Gilda also found a love for cruises while in Florida. They were able to take trips to the Caribbean and loved visiting the Islands.

Lloyd was a Boat Captain at the Weeki Watchee Springs State Park. He would take visitors on the River Boat Cruise and share information on the local Florida wildlife, including his beloved Manatees.

Once again retiring, Lloyd and Gilda moved to Martin, Georgia. There he had several acres of land to fully enjoy the outdoors and wildlife.

Lloyd loved his family and loved to tell stories of his childhood and adventures in life. He always had a smile for you and a positive outlook on life. Ultimately, he was a joy to be around and his loving family and wide circle of friends will miss him dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Gilda Wark, of Holiday, Florida, his son, Bryon T. Wark, of Plainville, his daughter, Beth LaBella, of Plainville, as well as his grandsons, Nick LaBella and Alex LaBella, both of Plainville. He also leaves behind his stepson, Bill Cameron and his wife, Kelly, of Holiday, Florida, and several nieces and nephews.

Lloyd was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Vernon Wark, his sister-in-law, Lillian Wark, as well as his stepdaughters, Wendy Cameron and Debbie Cameron.

Lloyd had the honor and privilege of serving with Robert M. Holcomb on the Plainville Police Department. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Robert M. Holcomb Scholarship Fund, c/o Plainville Police Association, 19 Neal Court, Plainville, CT 06062.
