Linda Mitchell Obituary

Linda Mitchell, of Meriden, passed away after a short but courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of her family and many friends, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and unwavering devotion to those she loved most. Born on March 6, 1959, to Janie Hetrick (Lowery) of Mississippi and the late Robert Levett, Linda carried both her Southern roots and her Connecticut home proudly throughout her life. Though she spent most of her years in Connecticut, her love for Southern cooking, family traditions, and warm hospitality always reflected the Southern belle she truly was.

Linda was predeceased by her beloved husband, Thomas Mitchell, her father, Robert Levett, and her brother, Christopher Hetrick. She is survived by her loving mother, Janie Hetrick; her loving daughter, Georgia Bedell and husband Harlan of Plainville; her son, Ronald Velush and his life long partner, Donna, of Maine; and her cherished and devoted partner, Phillip Whiteneck, along with his entire family, who each held a very special place in Linda’s heart and embraced her with love, laughter, and a sense of belonging that she treasured deeply. She also leaves behind her loving mother-in-law, Eleanor Mitchell.

Linda’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a proud and deeply devoted “Nauny” to her ten beloved grandchildren: McKenzie, Shayna, Hayden, Jacqueline, Natashah, Devyn, Danielle, Vinny, Maddy, and Kamdyn; and seven treasured great-grandchildren: Zharia, Ezequiel, Zhaqari, Ava, Scarlette, Levi, and Vinny Jr. Her love for each of them was fierce and unconditional, and some of her happiest moments were spent cheering them on at sporting events, celebrating milestones, and simply being surrounded by the people she loved most. Whether it was a holiday gathering, a family cookout, or a quiet moment spent talking and laughing together, Linda treasured every second with her family and friends.

She is also survived by her brothers, Michael Levett, Richie Hetrick, and Randy Hetrick, all of Mississippi, along with her four sisters from Connecticut, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who will forever cherish her memory.

Linda dedicated more than 25 years of her career to payroll services, where she became known as “the double checker” the dependable one who always made sure everything was in order and going according to plan. She approached both work and life with care, dedication, and a desire to help others however she could. Her work ethic, loyalty, and willingness to always show up for others were qualities that defined her throughout her life.

Linda had a beautiful spirit and an enormous heart. She was the kind of person people naturally turned to for comfort, advice, and reassurance. She was always willing to listen, lend a helping hand, and advocate fiercely for the people she loved. Her compassion extended not only to people, but also to animals, whom she adored deeply and cared for with the same tenderness she showed everyone around her. Linda loved fiercely, cared endlessly, and made people feel safe, welcomed, and loved simply by being herself.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to the incredible staff who cared for Linda during her illness, especially the compassionate team at MMC Oncology E4. A special thank you to nurses Alex, Maria, Claudia, Nadine, Ben, Gabby, Jen W., Melissa, and tech’s, Amber, Mariela, Marvin, and the entire staff for being such an amazing, caring, and compassionate team. The kindness, dignity, comfort, and love shown to Linda and her family during such a difficult time will never be forgotten.

The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated Palliative Care Department for the unwavering support, compassion, and guidance they provided throughout Linda’s journey. A very special thank you to Stephanie for the incredible care, strength, advocacy, and comfort she gave Linda and her family during some of their hardest moments. Stephanie not only cared for Linda medically, but emotionally as well, helping guide her and her loved ones with compassion, honesty, dignity, and grace. The support and comfort provided by the palliative care team brought peace during unimaginable moments and will forever be remembered with deep gratitude.

Linda’s strength throughout her illness was nothing short of inspiring. She fought with courage, determination, and grace while continuing to think about the people she loved most. Even during difficult days, her heart remained full of love for her family, friends, and those around her.

Calling hours will be held at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad Street, Plainville on Friday, May 15th from 5 to 7 PM, with a prayer to conclude the evening led by Chaplain Sean Collins.

Linda will be missed beyond words, loved endlessly, and remembered forever by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
