Lila Jean Winters, 94, of Plainville passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Sunday, December 17, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife and best friend of Andrew Winters for 32 wonderful, fun-filled years.
Lila was born on February 6, 1929 in New Britain, CT daughter to the late Sahac and Rose (Bagdasarian) Jacobs. She grew up in New Britain, and graduated from New Britain High School, class of 1946. She held a successful career as an Executive Secretary for Emhart Corporation, (formerly Corbin & Russwin) retiring after many dedicated and hard-working years. She also represented them on the Board of Directors for United Way, proud to take part in community service projects.
Known for her great sense of humor and spunky personality, Lila was the ultimate fashionista who also had a love for jewelry, especially diamonds. She was always dressed to impress with her nails impeccably painted to pull together her striking style. She loved going on shopping trips with her daughters, and always kept up with the latest trends.
Lila was a long-time member of Saint Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church in New Britain and faithfully attended church on Sunday, alongside her husband. Together, Lila and Andy led a life full of adventures, dancing together at the Hawthorne Inn and attending theater productions in Berlin, CT or in Ogunquit, Maine during their prime years. In more recent years, they continued keeping fit by going to the YMCA 2-3 days a week, followed by breakfast at one of their favorite spots. Every moment spent by each other’s side was cherished and fondly remembered. She enjoyed watching the daily episodes of Judge Judy, sharing many laughs with her daughters as they often viewed together. Above all, family was the center of Lila’s world and she undoubtingly adored her daughters and grandchildren and relished in being a mother and grandmother. A woman of strong faith with an abundance of love to share, Lila will be missed by all who were blessed to be a part of her life.
In addition to her husband, Andrew Winters, Lila is survived by her daughters, Diane Domingue and her husband, Ernie, and Donna Picard and her husband, Allen; her grandchildren, Christopher Bennettson, Corey Bennettson, and Morgan Picard; and her 4 step-children, along with their families. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was predeceased by her siblings, Edward Jacobs, Susan Paradis, and Armen Jacobs.
Lila’s family would like to express their gratitude to Gabby Cyr, who went above and beyond to care for Lila over the years. In addition, a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of Hartford Healthcare Hospice at Home team for their exceptional care and comfort given to Lila.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Thursday, December 21 from 5 to 7 PM at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad Street, Plainville. A prayer service and words of remembrance will be shared at 6:30 PM. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lila may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
