Katharine E. (Gworek) Granquist, 82, of Bristol, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. She was the beloved wife of William Granquist, with whom she shared 65 years of love and life adventures.
Born in New Britain on September 22, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Sophie (Saranowski) Gworek. Raised and educated in New Britain, she and William settled in Bristol where they raised their three sons. Katharine was a retiree from the State of Connecticut, having worked as an Educational Administrator at UCONN Health Center in Farmington for more than 35 years. Kathy loved her family deeply and created many cherished memories of summers and weekends at the beach or at their home away from home in Wells River, VT. She and Bill spent their retirement wintering in Puerto Rico, or at “Kathy’s Spa”, the poolside oasis they created in their backyard. A “mom” to everyone, humans and animals alike; she was gentle, kind, nourishing, and is already missed by her “backyard crew” of cutely named squirrels, ducks, and birds that she kept well fed and loved. A beautiful soul inside and out, she will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
She leaves her husband Bill of Bristol, her sons, Michael and his wife Deborah of Colebrook and Gary of Athens, GA. She is now reunited with her son, William, Jr who tragically predeceased her in 1984.
Katharine’s family will celebrate her life privately with a graveside service at St. Joseph Cemetery in Bristol, where she will be laid to rest with her son.
