Karen Hedman-Ouellette Obituary

Karen L. Hedman-Ouellette, 62, lifelong resident of Plainville, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 20, 2025 in the comfort of her home.

Karen was born on August 30, 1962 in New Britain, CT daughter to the late Kenneth A. and Nancy (Middleton) Hedman. Raised in Plainville, Karen attended local schools and graduated from Plainville High School in 1981. Born with a passion for creativity and a desire to help those around her, Karen began her career as a hairstylist, where her artistic flair and warm spirit brought joy to many. However, the call to care for others led her to the noble profession of nursing. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, she found fulfillment in making a difference in the lives of her patients. She enjoyed her time working in various doctor's offices, finding particular happiness while serving under the guidance of Dr. Petit, where her compassion and dedication shone bright.

A vibrant soul known for her unmatched flair for fashion and beauty, she had a unique gift for transforming her appearance, often dyeing her hair in a kaleidoscope of colors and embracing a multitude of styles that reflected her dynamic personality. Karen will be remembered fondly for her love of shopping, a pastime she approached with the same enthusiasm she brought to all aspects of her life.

An adventurer at heart, Karen was known for her fearless approach to life. She embraced every opportunity for joy, whether it was jet skiing across azure waters, deep diving into the mysteries of the ocean, zip lining through lush canopies, or horseback riding along the stunning shores of Jamaica. Wherever she went, she was the first to say, “Let’s give it a whirl,” and her desire to enjoy life to the fullest inspired everyone around her.

Karen had an insatiable curiosity for the unseen, often captivated by the mysteries of paranormal activity. Her life was a fascinating journey through tales of the supernatural, as she devoured stories on television and ventured to some of the most storied haunted locations, seeking to understand the unexplainable without hesitation.

Karen had a unique ability to find peace in the simple joys of life. A relaxing day for her often meant long drives along the scenic routes with her devoted companion, Kevin, and her loyal dog, Odin, listening to her favorite heavy rock music. Those moments brought her profound happiness.

Karen was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones, often bringing family and friends together for laughter, stories, and the warmth of connection. One of her fondest memories was of carefree days spent at the beach with her family. These moments of togetherness, filled with joy and nostalgia, shaped not only her life but also the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.

Karen will be deeply missed by her cherished children, Melissa Ouellette and Elliott Simone; her loving companion, Kevin Tucker; her siblings, Keith Hedman and Susan Hedman; her aunt and uncle, Ruth and Dave Williams; and her dear friends, Robert Carrillo and Susan Simone. In addition to her parents and her beloved dog, Odin, she was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Lori Hedman and her special aunt, Grace (Middleton) Dixon.

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Thursday, July 3, 2025 from 5 to 7 PM at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad Street, Plainville.
