Julio J. DelVaglio, 93, passed away peacefully after a well-lived life on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Jerome Home in New Britain. Julio was a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, known for his warmth, humor, and dedication to his loved ones.
Julio was born in Stamford, CT on November 26, 1932, son to the late Pietro and Chiarina (Matteis) DelVaglio. After attending trade school for printing, he joined the family printing business in Thomaston. His labor was not without sacrifice, as he served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He eventually settled in Terryville, where he raised his family.
While raising his family, Julio also coached Little League baseball for Seth Thomas in Thomaston where he instilled teamwork, comradery and love for the game. Many who had the privilege of being coached by him still recall fond memories of the invaluable life lessons he imparted on and off the field. A lifelong lover of sports, he was an enthusiastic fan of UCONN women's basketball, sharing in the triumphs and challenges of every season.
Julio was an uncomplicated and easygoing man who enjoyed the simple things, watching golf, game shows or in his lifelong passion for puzzle making. His creations were expressions of his quiet and patient nature. He filled the walls of his room with his works of art and was proud to share with others.
Above all, Julio took immense pride in being an active participant in the lives of his family, never missing an important event, whether it was a game, a school play, or a family gathering. His presence radiated positivity, and he left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him, often brightening their days with his hysterics and delightful stories.
Julio is survived by his children, Pamela DelVaglio, Lori DelVaglio, Tracie DelVaglio and David DelVaglio (Melissa); his grandchildren, Joshua Clements, Nicholas DelVaglio, Zachary DelVaglio, Chase DelVaglio and Aliza DelVaglio; his great-granddaughter, Ivy Clements; his sister, Marie Matteis; and many extended family members. He was predeceased by his siblings, Cesare DelVaglio, Rachel Pellegrino, Gerald DelVaglio and Peter DelVaglio.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Wednesday, March 25 from 10 AM to 12 PM at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad Street, Plainville. A Catholic prayer service followed by words of remembrance shared by Julio's daughter, Lori, will begin at 12 PM at the funeral home. Julio will be laid to rest privately at St. John Cemetery in Darien, CT.
