Jose Conceicao Reis, 83, of Plainville, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2022 after a brief illness at the Hospital of Central CT in New Britain. He was the devoted husband of Maria Lourdes (Silva) Reis and together they shared over 55 years of marriage.
Jose was born on October 3, 1938 in Lapa Furada, São Mamede, Batalha, Portugal son to the late Joaquin and Laura Reis, of Portugal. He grew up in Portugal, attended school in Portugal and went on to serve in the Portuguese Army. While serving in the military, he was stationed in Mozambique and together he and his wife, Maria, started their family and had their son, Paul. As a family they immigrated to the United States when Paul was just one years old, settling in Hartford prior to establishing their forever home in Plainville. Jose was a hard-working man, always tinkering or fixing things, even if it did not need fixing. He thrived on remaining active and worked all the way until his final days. One may say that for Jose, resting was not an option. He was very particular about things and enjoyed maintaining the family home, especially tending to the landscaping. He will forever be remembered for his hard-work and dedication to the things he loved, leaving his family with many cherished memories.
Jose is survived by his wife, Maria Lourdes (Silva) Reis, his son, Paul Reis and his wife, Avery, his granddaughter, Kaylee Reis, and many extended family members in the United States and in Portugal.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Monday, May 2 from 9 to 10:30 AM at the Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad Street, Plainville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 94 Broad Street, Plainville. Burial will follow in West Cemetery, Plainville.
