John Russell Daniels, affectionately known as "Jack," of Thomaston, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024, at the age of 89.
Born on June 16, 1935, in Greenwich, he was one of three sons of the late Cyprian and Elizabeth (Dolan) Daniels. Jack grew up in Stamford and in 1953, graduated from Stamford High School. He went on to proudly serve his country in the US Army, and was honorably discharged in 1956.
Throughout his life, Jack found joy in the simple pleasure of gardening, a passion he cultivated after retiring from the State of Connecticut Highway Department. Later in life, he moved to Thomaston and was a familiar face at the Bristol Senior Center, where his love for dancing brought smiles to all who knew him.
Jack was a mischievous soul, known for his playful antics that lightened the spirits of those around him. His complexity and mischief added a unique dynamic to his relationships, and many who had the pleasure of knowing him appreciated having a little "Jack Daniels" in their lives.
Jack is survived by his son, Michael Daniels and his wife Michele of Plainville; his daughter Kathryn Daniels Knox and her husband Thomas of Bethesda, MD; his grandchildren, Andrew Daniels and his wife Lauren, Meghan Daniels D'Onofrio and her husband Domenick, and Teddy, Liam, Betsy and Molly Knox. He also leaves his former wife, Sharon Daniels; his brother Peter Daniels; his brother-in-law Richard Lombardo; his friend and aide Kathleen Britton; and many nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Daniels.
In lieu of flowers, Jack may be remembered with contributions to the Dementia Society of America at http://www.dementiasociety.org
