John A. Murphy Jr., 83, lifetime resident of Plainville passed away in the comfort of his home on Sunday, September 19, 2021.
John was born on February 3, 1938 in New Britain, CT son to the late John A. Murphy Sr. and Jeannette (Fields) Murphy. He attended local schools and graduated from Plainville High School. Following graduation, John enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving our country and was honorably discharged. John led a successful career at Stanley Works in New Britain where he retired from after many dedicated years of hard work. A lover of the outdoors, John was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying many trips solo to Canada over the years or locally with his nephews to teach them the skills. He led a happy and simple life, keeping to himself and minding his own. A man of a few words, his gentle nature will always be remembered as his family cherishes the times they have shared together over the years.
John is survived by his sisters, Marilyn Johnson, Meda Moschini, and Frances “Red” Baillargeon; his nieces and nephews, Meda Talley and her husband, Jim, Darcey Melnyk and her husband, Mark, Holly Baillargeon and her husband, Randy Clark, Richard Moschini, Thomas Moschini Sr., and Gary Baillargeon and his wife, Kimberly; and several great nieces and nephews and extended family members. He also leaves behind his loving companion of over 20 years, Genevieve DiFrancesco. He was predeceased by his brother-in-laws, Natale Moschini and William Baillargeon and his nephew, Robert Moschini.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held privately in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Plainville. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516. The staff at Plainville Funeral Home extends their appreciation to the Murphy family for their trust.
