John A. Maciag, Jr., 70 of Plainville passed away at home following a short illness on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
John was born in New Britain on September 13, 1953, the only son of the late John A. Maciag, Sr. and Helen (Chapor) Maciag. Raised and educated in Plainville, he was a 1971 graduate of Plainville High School. John furthered his education at Cornell University where he earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree. Following graduation from Cornell, he held a successful career as an architect until retirement. He was an officer of Cornell Club of Greater Hartford, and member of The American Institute of Architects and The Connecticut Society of Architects.
A devoted and faithful catholic, John was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mercy Church. Remembered and known for his passion for gardening, John spent many blissful hours tending to his massive gardens, where he found peace in nature. A member of the Connecticut Gladiolus Society, he followed in his parent footsteps growing plentiful gladiolus spreading beauty and joy to everyone they shared them with.
John is survived by his aunts, Monica Maciag and Alice “Rena” Chaper, and many cousins, including his special cousin Regina “Queenie” Galligan; his good friend and neighbor Greg Granger; and his four legged best friend, his beloved dog Crystal.
In lieu of flowers, John may be remembered with contributions to Our Lady of Mercy Church, 19 S. Canal St, Plainville or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 94 Broad St, Plainville. Committal will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Family and friends may gather prior to the mass, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St Plainville.
