John M. Borry

John M. Borry, 76, of Plainville, beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather, passed away on Monday, August 16, 2021.

Born on July 14, 1945, he was one of two children to the late John and Jennie (Covino) Borry.  Raised and educated in Bridgeport, John enlisted in the US Navy in 1965, proudly serving his country for four years during Vietnam; a time in his life that he enjoyed reflecting upon through endless stories with his grandsons.   He met the love of his life, Marilyn (Schwarz) while on leave for Labor Day weekend in 1966 and married her less than one year later.  They settled in Plainville upon his honorable discharge where they raised a loving family.  Devoted to his family and to his town, he retired from the Plainville Fire Company after 33 years of dedicated service.    John worked as an engine mechanic for Pratt & Whitney which supported his second love, lottery tickets, until his retirement.  Not a Christmas would go by without him gifting lottery tickets in the stockings of his wife, children and grandchildren.  An outdoors enthusiast, he loved to go boating, hunting and fishing with his buddies, the “Happy Hookers” and shared many camping experiences with his family, friends and fellow members of the “Socialable Sams Camping Club”. He promoted outdoor safety and preservation as a Forest Fire Warden for the State of Connecticut and through his instruction of pistol permit and hunter safety classes.  Remembered for his sense of humor, love for his family, our environment, and his feline companions, Samantha, Tom, Jerry and Perkins, John will be greatly missed, leaving many cherished memories.

In addition to his wife Marilyn and his cats that he sometimes loved more than his kids, he leaves his sons, Michael and his wife Maryann, Brian, and John and his wife Kamie; his grandchildren, Brock, Adam, Tyler, Kamryn, and Cailyn; along with many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his sister, Virginia Sagliano.

The Borry family extends their sincerest gratitude to the doctors and nurses at UCONN Health Center ICU for all of their efforts and compassion while he was in their care.
