Joan Sartori Obituary

Joan Elizabeth (Barber) Sartori, 86 of Plainville, peacefully left this earthly life on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.  She is now reunited with her beloved husband of 44 years, John Henry Sartori, who predeceased her in 2011 and her sister, Linda (Barber) Lawson, who predeceased her in 1987.

Born in Bristol on December 3, 1937, Joan was the daughter of the late Herbert and Helen (Grover) Barber. Raised and educated in Plainville, she was a 1955 graduate of Plainville High School, and furthered her education at Hillyer College at the University of Hartford, laying the foundation for a successful administrative career with the State of Connecticut, where she dedicated herself until her retirement in 1998. A seeker of warmer climates, Joan and John ventured to Sarasota, FL in their retirement, spending many happy years until her return to her roots in 2011. A self-proclaimed "cat lady," she found solace and joy in the company of her feline friends. A lifelong NY Yankees fan, she followed her team with great passion and dedication. Deeply rooted in her faith, Joan found comfort in daily prayer, faithfully reciting the rosary as an expression of her unwavering spirituality.  Her bright spirit, zest for life and gentle presence will be missed dearly and fondly remembered.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Joanie (Sartori) Vicinus and her husband, Paul Jr., of Plainville, her brother, Tom Barber and his wife, Erin, of Towson, MD (originally of Plainville), her brother-in-law, Doug Lawson and his wife, Judy, of Waterford, CT, her step-daughters, Esther DePasquale and her husband, Bill, Evelyn White and Patricia Sartori, her grandchildren, Brittany Joyce, Brandon Vicinus and Jacob Vicinus, all of Tampa, FL, Todd DePasquale and his wife, Raenne, Jayme DePasquale, Dayna DePasquale and Chad DePasquale and his wife, Ashley. Joan was blessed with great-grandchildren, Kensington Joyce, Olivia, Lena and Julianna DePasquale, who brought her great joy and happiness. Joan’s extended family was the center of her life. She leaves behind loving nieces and nephews, Cindy McNulty and her husband, Kevin, and children, Lindsay and Paige, Susan Lawson and children, Ethan and Emily, Ryan Barber, Kyle Barber and his wife, Trina, and daughter, Lorelai, and Kelly (Barber) Perez and her husband, Diovadis (JR), and son, Deion.

In recognition of her generosity and caring for others, Joan may be remembered with contributions to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd, Newington, CT 06111 or to the Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center, 303 Tunxis Rd Entrance 5, West Hartford, CT 06107. Please donate in lieu of flowers.
