Janina W. (Bastek) Mizerek

Janina W. (Bastek) Mizerek, 79, of Plainville, passed away peacefully with her loving husband of 47 years, Piotr Mizerek, by her side on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at Apple Rehab of Plainville.

Janina was born during World War II on January 1, 1944 in Myszyniec, Poland daughter of the late Stanislaw and Weronika (Zdunek) Bastek and attended schools in Poland. A woman of strong work ethic, she worked for the Postal Service in Poland within the telecommunications department and worked her way up to the role as supervisor. Janina and her husband, Piotr, immigrated to the United States to raise their family and settled in Plainville after many years spent in New Britain. Janina continued to work in the U.S. for many decades at ITT Sealectro in New Britain. Janina was a social butterfly; she loved to be surrounded by family and friends. She loved to knit and was a talented singer, performing at family weddings or leisurely at home. Her family was the center of her world, especially her grandchildren who held a very special place in her heart as their cherished Babcia, and there was nothing she loved more than nurturing, talking, and laughing alongside those she adored. A woman of strength, determination, and loads of love to give, Janina will be missed deeply by her family and friends.

Janina is survived by her husband, Piotr Mizerek; her sons, Thomas Mizerek and his wife, Beata, and Mark Wylenczek and his wife, Anna; her grandchildren, Claudia Mizerek, David Mizerek, Paul Wylenczek, and Pawel Banasiak; her sisters, Irena Tobiasz and Maryla Kaczmarczyk; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was predeceased by her brothers, Jerzy Bastek, Stanislaw Bastek, and Henryk Bastek.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 21 from 5 to 7 PM at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St., Plainville. Funeral services will begin on Thursday, June 22 at 9 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 94 Broad St., Plainville.
