James Yount, of Southington, beloved husband, father,”Pops” and friend to many, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 8, 2024 following a brief illness. He shared 67 beautiful years full of love and adventure with his soulmate, Carol (Hulings) whom he married in June of 1957.
Born on May 27, 1936, in DuBois, PA., where he was raised and educated, James was the last surviving of five children to the late Emmett and Matilda (Ober) Yount. He dedicated over three decades to building and running Northeastern Shaped Wire in Southington until his well-deserved retirement in 1998. A lifelong lover of camping, he created cherished summer memories with his family, and spent many of his retirement years traveling the country in his RV, visiting all 50 states, often returning to his hometown in Pennsylvania to visit his family. His beloved home in Southington was the hub of family gatherings, guitar playing and much laughter, and where he fulfilled his love for the game of golf at the course in his backyard, Hawks Landing. Jim touched the lives of many with his kindness and generosity and will be fondly remembered by his family and wide circle of friends.
In addition to his wife Carol, he leaves his children, James and his wife Donna Yount, Rodger Yount and Christine Yount. He was the proud Pop to his five grandchildren, Joshua DeBernardi, Dustin DeBernardi and his fiancé Dana Fontanella, Amanda Yount, Stephen Yount, and Samuel Yount , his wife Rebecca, and their son Patrick “P.J.” Yount, who gave him his favorite nickname “G-Pop.” He was predeceased by his brothers, Norman, Louis and Gordon and his sister, Jean Cypher, and leaves many nieces, nephews, dear friends and golf buddies, along with his four legged companion, his dog Misty.
In lieu of flowers, Jim may be remembered with contributions to any organization that benefits cancer research.
The Yount family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the Southington Police Department for their care and concern.
