James Edward Prior, beloved husband of Linda (Zurell) Prior, passed away peacefully on Saturday December 16, 2023 at the age of 78. A loving husband, father, brother, and uncle, he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness.
Jim was born in New Britain on April 20, 1945, one of two children to the late James Henry and Vera (Bell) Prior Caparrelli. Raised and educated in Plainville, Jimmy cherished his small-town roots and invested his heart into the community that shaped him. He was a graduate of Plainville High School, a place where he forged lifelong friendships that would stand the test of time. His commitment to serving others led him to become a devoted member of the Plainville Fire Company, and, deeply patriotic, he served in the US Army Reserves. At the young age of 18, Jim began his career as a truck driver for White Oak Corporation, dedicating himself to his craft for an astounding 45 years, where he could be relied upon for his strong work ethic and steadfast commitment. A NASCAR enthusiast, he traveled across the country following the adrenaline-pumping races and for two decades, Jim’s annual trips to Louden became a tradition, allowing him to indulge in the thrill of the sport, surrounded by the friends who shared his passion. Jim and Linda shared 25 wonderful years of marriage filled with countless laughs and adventures, including annual trips to Florida and Maine to visit their beloved family and friends. Remembered for his story-telling, followed by his infectious laughter, he was the life of the party, exuding kindness and humility in every interaction. His humor and genuine nature brought joy to those around him, and will forever shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved him.
In addition to his wife Linda, he leaves his son, James Joseph Prior, his sister Patricia Gacek and her husband John; his brothers-in-law Roy (Beverly) Zurell and Ron (Ann) Zurell; and his nieces, Sheri (Rich) Ierardi, Cyndi (Scott) Parker and Wendi (Rick) Kerr.
