Jaqueline Ruthie "Jackie" (Smith) Casida, 82 of Plainville, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2023. She was the wife of the late Carter “Corky” Casida, Jr. with whom she shared 58 years until his passing in 2021.
Born on May 16, 1941, in New Britain, she was one of four daughters to the late John and Lena (Derita) Smith. A graduate of New Britain High School, she spent many years working in customer service as the head cashier at Big Y in Plainville, where she was known for her warm smile and friendly demeanor. She was a woman of many talents and interests, but above all, her family and friends meant the world to her. She was the ultimate hostess of holidays and family picnics, who looked forward to entertaining and creating lasting memories for all who attended. She was also a talented baker, especially known for her Christmas cookies, which were always eagerly anticipated. A woman with an infectious love for life and adventurous spirit, she and Corky enjoyed many travels, exploring new places and experiencing different cultures and both had a love for the outdoors, the beach, swimming and going clamming on the shores of Rhode Island. As a devout Catholic, and longtime member of Our Lady of Mercy Church, her faith was a significant part of her life and provided her with great comfort and strength. Proud of her Irish/Italian heritage, her life was a testament to the power of love, the strength of faith, and the joy of living each day to its fullest. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and she will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her son, Keith Casida, her daughter Kimberly Ferro, her sisters Joan Dorio and her husband Samuel, and Linda Riera, along with many nieces and nephews. She was a proud Nana to her adored grandchildren, James V. Ferro, III, Brittany Ferro, and Kylie, Brooke, and Cara Casida. She was predeceased by her sister Elaine Wilcox Riera, her brother-in-law John J. Riera, Jr., and her sister-in-law Joyce Casida Akatyzewski and her husband Richard Akatyzewski.
