July 4, 1929 ~ February 5, 2024 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Homerine "Joy" Adamski Obituary

Homerine “Joy” (Lajoie) Adamski, 94 of Forestville, peacefully left this earthly life surrounded by her family on Monday, February 5, 2024.  She is now reunited with her husband of 40 years, Raymond Adamski, who predeceased her in 1997.

Born in Northern Maine/Cyr Plantation on July 4, 1929, she was one of four children to the late Homer and Jeanne (Ayotte) Lajoie.  She and Ray settled in Forestville where they raised their three daughters and were longtime communicants of St. Matthew Church and the BPOE Lodge #1010.  Additionally, she and her daughters proudly supported and participated in local Relay for Life events and fundraisers.

Joy’s love for adventure and exploration was evident through her passion for RVing and traveling. She treasured countless trips across the United States and her memorable journeys to Europe. Among all the places she visited, Lake George held a special place in her heart.
For 28 years, Joy spent winters in Florida, where she became an integral part of her community, welcomed friends into her “garage den” and kept active by going bike riding and playing bocce.

Joy’s entrepreneurial spirit led her to be a successful door-to-door Avon lady for over 50 years. Her passion for connecting with others was evident through her ownership and operation of Joy's Fabric Corner in New Britain for more than two decades. Through both of her businesses, she found joy in helping others and bringing a touch of beauty and creativity into their lives.

When she was not working, Joy indulged in her favorite pastimes. Her younger years found her gardening and going dancing, and later she developed an unparalleled love for the game of BINGO, rarely missing an opportunity to get out her dabber.  She reveled in life's simple pleasures, whether that meant sipping whiskey and gingy on her front porch or cozying up near her daughter’s wood stove on cold winter nights.

Although her departure leaves a void in our lives, her memory will continue to bring smiles to our faces and warmth to our hearts. She touched countless lives and leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and vitality.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynn Gonzalez and her husband Luis and Kim Adamski and her wife Kathie; her grandchildren, Benjamin and Abigail Szach; and her brother, Ralph Lajoie; along with many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her daughter, Brenda Adamski, and her brothers Melvin and Gordon Lajoie.

Joy’s family extends their sincerest appreciation to the nurses and staff at Apple Rehab Farmington Valley where she made her home for the past 2 years, her many companions and caretakers and the doctors and nurses at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, all who had a part in making Joy’s final days and years with us more comfortable.

In lieu of flowers Joy may be remembered with contributions to Relay for Life-Plainville, 161 Woodford Ave. Plainville, CT 06062.
