Helen T. (Tuleja) Cornish

Helen (Tuleja) Cornish, 98, of New Britain, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 22, 2021 at the Jerome Home.  She is now reunited with her beloved husband of 69 years, David O. Cornish, who predeceased her in 2014.

Born in Poland on December 7, 1922, Helen was the only child of the late Frank and Cecelia Tuleja.  A resident of New Britain since immigrating to the United States at the age of 7, she attended local schools and was a talented seamstress from young age, an art that she shared with her family and friends throughout her lifetime with intricately sewn and crocheted items, most especially her remarkable Christmas ornaments.  A devoted wife and mother, she shared in her husband’s patriotic pride throughout his military career, raised two successful children and was proud to witness two more generations grow and prosper. In her later years, she found pleasure in collecting Hummel figurines, and making trips to the barn where she had a special connection with the horses.  Remembered for her strength, love and dedication to her family, she leaves many cherished memories and will be missed dearly.

Helen is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Victoria Cornish of Plainville and David and Alice Cornish of Southington; her grandchildren, Robert, Jamie, Jason, and Julie; and great-grandchildren, Danielle, Charlie, Donovan, Myles, Nya, Dylan and Everett.

In lieu of flowers, Helen may be remembered with contributions to an organization benefitting veterans.

A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Helen’s life will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 158 Broad St, New Britain.  Committal will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.  Family and friends may gather one hour prior to the mass, from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St, Plainville.  For online expressions of sympathy, please visit www.PlainvilleFuneralHome.com
